The objective of type high press is to create various letterpress projects using wood and metal type in both platen and precision cylinder proofing printing presses. I took the class across two semesters. In Fall 2020, I did all of the required projects. In Spring 2021, I chose to create my own projects as well as repeat some projects to create new prints.
Project: Bees
I chose to print this project on my own. I wanted to make small prints on fun, creative paper. I printed in gold and black, depending on the paper.
Project: Raccoon Linoleum Block
The objective of this project was to cut a linoleum block. I chose to cut a raccoon. I wanted to print on speciality paper so I chose various holographic papers.
Project : Idiom
The objective of this project was to create a print where the content was an idiom or colloquialism. For this project we were to print on a proofing press with three ink colors. My ink colors were orange, red, and black.
Project: Cat Linoleum Block
The objective of this project was to cut a linoleum block. I chose to create a cat. I originally chose to print the cat in silver but upon printing, I chose to switch to a black ink. I felt that a black cat was much nicer on the various papers.
Project : Business Card
The objective of this project was to create a print that was standard business card size (2x3.5"). For this project we were to print on a platen press with one ink color. My ink color was orange.

The objective of this project was to create a print that was standard business card size (2x3.5"). For this project we were to print on a platen press with one ink color. My ink color was silver for the first business card. I had extra time within class so I chose to make a second business card. For the second card I used purple ink.
Project: Text Based Print
The objective of this project was to create a print that was very text heavy. I chose to create prints with the lyrics of the song Good Times by All Time Low. The song felt like a good message for the end of my college career.
Project : Linoleum Block Cut
The objective of this project was to cut a linoleum block at home. For this project we were to print using at least one ink color. My ink colors were silver and gold.
